About our Laredo concrete contractor business

Who we are, how I learned concrete and what it's like to hire us for your driveway, patio or slab.

How I got into concrete in Laredo

I learned concrete from my dad. From the time I was a teenager, I was setting forms and pulling screed boards on his jobs, the straight boards we drag across wet concrete to level it. After years of working beside him, I started K&L Laredo Concrete Construction here in Laredo in 2021.

Most of our calls come from homeowners who need a driveway, a patio or a slab, and from small business owners who need a lot, a floor or a foundation. That's the concrete work we do around Laredo, and driveways, patios and slabs are what we're best known for. The part I care about most is what sits under the concrete, because a nice looking slab on a bad base won't hold up.

So I'd rather tell you no, or send you to an engineer, than pour something I don't believe in. I also want you to know exactly what you're paying for before we start, so you can plan without guessing. That's the way I learned the trade, and it's how we work.

What you get when you hire us

Three things decide how a concrete job goes for you. Who's running it, what's under the slab and whether you can read the bill. Here's how we handle each one.

The owner on your job

You talk to me from the first call, and I'm the one who comes out to look at the job. When we pour your concrete, I'm on site with our crew, so the person who gave you the estimate is the one watching the forms, the finish and the joints. We're fully licensed and insured, too.

Most of the work is underground

The subgrade, the dirt your slab sits on, decides how it holds up, so we dig it out and pack it instead of raking it level, and we check where water runs so the slab doesn't fall toward your house. If the budget's tight, I'd rather trim the finish than the base, because a base is hard to fix once concrete is on top of it.

A bill you can read

Your estimate puts each part of the job on its own line, like digging out, base, forms, concrete and finish, so you see what you're paying for before we start. Size, thickness, how much dirt comes out and the finish you pick move the total, and the separate lines let you compare our bid with someone else's fairly.

What happens after you call us

Here's how a job runs with us, from your first call to the day you can use your new driveway, patio or slab again.

  1. 1

    Call or send the form

Call (956) 508-9209 or use our contact form and tell me what you need poured or fixed. You'll hear back within one business day, and you'll be dealing with me, the owner.

  2. 2

    Walk the job with me

I come out to look at the ground, the slope and where your water goes. Then you get a free written estimate, done on site, with no obligation to hire us.

  3. 3

We prep the ground and pour

If your job needs a permit, we pull it with the city as your contractor. Our crew digs out, packs the base, sets forms and rebar, the steel that ties the slab together, and pours with me there.

  4. 4

Let it cure, then use it

We cut control joints, shallow grooves that tell the concrete where to crack, and clean up. Then the slab needs to cure, a wait while it gains strength, so we'll tell you when it's ready to walk on and when it can take a car.
